ELSS cutoff for FY 2025–26: don't leave 80C to the last week

Investments made after 31 March won't count for the current financial year. Here's the sensible way to plan the last stretch.

Every year we see the same rush in the last week of March. A better plan:

  1. Check what's already used under 80C — EPF, home loan principal, kids' tuition, term insurance premium.
  2. Fill the balance up to ₹1.5L with ELSS if you're comfortable with equity and a 3-year lock-in.
  3. Set up an ELSS SIP for the next financial year so you're not doing this in March again.

ELSS invests in equities and carries market risk — the 3-year lock-in is the shortest among 80C options but returns are not guaranteed.
